Calibrated Software is a product we depend on daily and it's never let us down. I can't imagine trying to work with XDcam footage without it. It's as essential as the camera.

I use Calibrated's MP4-EX Import Plugin for Mac OS X and I love it! It allows me completely skip the FCP log and transfer and/or the Sony XDCam Transfer step that was previously needed to get EX footage usable on a Mac.
This not only saves me a lot of time, as I can just import the native EX files into Final Cut Pro and use them like any other QuickTime file, without sacrificing any performance, I wind up saving a lot of hard drive space, which as we know, in this 'tapeless' workflow we're now all a part of, is becoming more and more of an issue.
In addition, I find Calibrated Software -the company -to be about as friendly and responsive as a software company could be. Highly recommended!

Love that you don't have to worry if all your clips have been converted in FCP. You use 1/2 the hard drive space and less media to deal with. It's a no-brainer.

MP4-EX Import is an amazing time-saver. The ability to drag and drop MP4 wrapped XDCAM EX files and start editing immediately with FCP is simply incredible. I recommend it to anyone who shoots with the Sony EX1/EX3 or JVC HM100/HM700. Good riddance Log & Transfer!

With Calibrated{Q} Import MXF we can now have Final Cut Server read our MXF files. FCSvr can now make proxies of the MXF media and allows FCSvr to read the MXF files and transcode them into other CODECs.
We acquire using Sony's XDCAM HD cameras, when using Calibrated{Q} Import MXF we don't have to use the Sony Transfer Utility to re-wrap files into XDCAM.MOV, a BIG time saver!!! Now we can standardize on one CODEC and one wrapper for the entire post production process.

Calibrated software's support was second to none, immediate responses - even though I'm based in the UK and the support was based in America, clocking in at over 15 substantial emails doing all they could to help me remotely.
I was stuck in a real pickle on a project - but the developer went beyond the call of duty to help me, thoroughly researching my issue and coming up with multiple solutions that made his life harder - rather than brushing me off!
If I could send the developer a bottle of wine over the Atlantic without customs interfering and him receiving taxation charges I would!

For P2 users like me FCP is useless without MXF Import, and with the new V1.9.1 and the TypeCode option even smoothcam works. Support is nothing short of perfect, overall beats the other options by a mile.

It works so seamlessly, I'd forgotten that it's an add-on. From quick checks of footage during the shoot to receiving footage via FTP, 'it just works'. Essential for EX shooter/editors and editors who work with EX footage.
